General Information about the Town of Minisink

Minisink is in Orange County, New York with a population of around 4,500. It is located in the southwestern part of the county on the New Jersey border, and is surrounded by the towns of Warwick, Greenville and Wawayanda. Inside the town of Minisink are the Hamlets of Johnson and Westtown and the Village of Unionville. The area is not over-built and offers a neighborly feel.

The town’s history goes back hundreds of years. Minisink’s land was originally controlled by the Dutch dating back to 1621. Not long after, the English took over and ruled until the Revolutionary War. 

Things to Do in and around Minisink

The town of Minisink is not commercialized, but it does have a variety of shops and restaurants, as well as a golf course. There is also the popular Winding Waters Trail, which is a 2.3 mile peaceful, short hiking area that runs along the Wallkill River. It’s a great place to unwind and take in the wildlife or throw a fishing line.

Just a short drive from the town you will find ski slopes, wineries, breweries, shopping areas, and a host of other activities and amenities.

The Minisink School District is comprised of five schools with approximately 4,700 students from Minisink, Greenville, Wawayanda, New Hampton, Mt. Hope, Mamakating and Wallkill. There are two elementary schools, one middle school, one intermediate school and one high school.

Transportation

Minisink lies between New York City and Scranton, Pennsylvania. It is conveniently located near Interstate 84 and New York State Route 17.
