A Charming Community

Historically known as a resort destination – enjoyed by quite a few well-known celebrities – Greenwood Lake is now an inviting residential community with approximately 3,000 residents. Many people call it home 365 days a year, while others choose it as a weekend, holiday or summer getaway. Located 50 miles just about an hour outside of New York City, it is an ideal location for commuters or those who want a second home away from the hustle and bustle and recharge your batteries. This sought after area offers plenty of lakefront properties along with homes that surround its downtown with spectacular views of the lake and mountains.

A Quaint Downtown

The tranquil village of Greenwood Lake has a burgeoning downtown with shops, businesses and restaurants. You can grab a bite to eat, enjoy a cup of coffee or ice cream cone, relax with a cocktail , enjoy live entertainment on the lake, fireworks on the beach and quaint shops and establishments.  

Lake Life

Greenwood Lake is perhaps best known for its lake life. The lake is New York’s largest body of freshwater, fed by springs and brooks half in New York and half in New Jersey. There is a waterfront beach park for residents with a lifeguarded swimming area, picnic area, volleyball court and children’s play area. Boating and water sports are a huge part of lake life here. Marinas and docks dot the lake, along with numerous restaurants that you can boat on up to. There is even a lakeside farmers market that runs from June through October.

Surrounding Area

Greenwood Lake is surrounded by a large variety of activities and amenities year round. There are exciting pastimes to be found just outside your doorstep all year to enjoy picking up and hiking the Appalachian trail, wineries, breweries, shopping areas, golf courses, skiing, a drive-in movie theater, fishing spots, and so much more.

Schools

The village of Greenwood Lake has its own elementary and middle schools. High school students have the option of attending either Warwick Valley High School or Chester High School. 

Transportation

Greenwood Lake is located approximately 50 miles outside of New York City. There is access to main thoroughfares (Rt 17, Rt 17A,) and an NJ Transit Park and Ride lot is located next to the village library.
