A Town Steeped in History

Goshen was founded back in 1714, and by 1727 it was a booming agricultural region and a colonial government outpost. Over the years, it has continued to be a hub. The buildings that dot its streets span from those erected centuries ago to those constructed today, beautifully blending the old with the new. Walking through its village, you feel like you are in a Currier and Ives print among the historic structures – from homes and churches to the Harness Racing Museum and race track, which is one of America’s oldest racing tracks for horses, as well as a National Landmark. Outside of the village, you’ll find rolling farmland, additional shopping and dining, and housing subdivisions.

A Vibrant Downtown

As the Orange County seat, Goshen is a bustling town. Along with the courthouse, government buildings, and professional offices, you’ll find an inviting, eclectic mix of restaurants, shops, service businesses. Things to Do In and Around Goshen

There’s plenty of things to keep you busy within the town’s limits themselves. There is a huge July 4th celebration every year called the Great American Weekend with craft vendors, food, rides, music, and races at the track. Each December there is the annual holiday home tour, and every Friday you can attend the Farmers Market when weather permits. There are also concerts on the green and other community events. 

Residents also enjoy the Heritage Trail, an 18 mile asphalt and limestone trail that extends from Middletown to Harriman. It’s a popular spot for walking, running and biking, as well as taking in the  bird and wildlife sanctuary, historic landmarks, streams, rolling meadows and friendly communities. Other hiking trails, as well as golf courses, ski trails, lakes, apple orchards, wineries and breweries and close by.
