The Town of Warwick is located in Orange County, New York. It includes the Villages of Florida, Greenwood Lake and Warwick, as well as Pine Island, Amity, Edenville, Bellvale and Sterling Forest. Warwick’s 104 square miles is dotted with scenic roads and inviting shops, eateries, wineries, apple orchards, farms and more. While the setting may be considered rural, there are thriving downtowns, an abundance of activities ,and sought after conveniences.
Shopping Districts
The Villages of Warwick, Florida and Greenwood Lake all have bustling downtown shopping districts with stores and restaurants, as well as pockets of shopping areas. The hamlets also have shops, and the town features two anchor grocery store chains. Throughout the warm months, residents and tourists enjoy popular farmers markets that feature produce and artisanal food products from local farms and merchants.
Plenty of Options for Fun and Relaxation All Year Round
There is so much to do in Warwick. Go for a hike on one of the many trails, including parts of the Appalachian Trail. Enjoy boating and swimming on Greenwood Lake. Play a round at one of the two golf courses. Spend a day cross-country or downhill skiing. Fish the various streams, ponds and lakes. Listen to live music on Warwick Village Green and other venues. Watch a movie at the drive-in. And don’t miss Warwick’s biggest attraction – Applefest. This festival in the Village of Warwick’s downtown, which is held in the fall every year, draws 35,000 visitors.

An Area Rich in History
Warwick’s roots run deep – very deep. In fact, mastodon remains have been found in the town, along with a rich source of Native American artifacts. The town also has Revolutionary ties. In 1783, George Washington travelled through Warwick, stopping at Bairds Tavern and spending the night in the home of John Hathorne. Colonial and Victorian homes, many of which are on the National Register of Historic Places, can be found throughout the town. The Pine Island end of Warwick also has a history for its fertile black dirt. The area that had been flooded by glaciers from the Ice Age was drained by Polish immigrants back in the 1800s to create rich farmland that has been known for its produce, particularly its onions.
The Village of Warwick
The Village of Warwick is nestled inside the Town of Warwick. Its main street is lined with shops, earties, and eclectic store fronts that serve the local community and as a tourist destination. It is 2.42 square miles and has a population of approximately 6,700 with a little over 3,000 homes. The Village is the hub of so many activities, such as Applefest, Music on the Green concerts, parades, and more.
Schools
Greenwood Lake and Florida each have their own elementary and middle schools, with Florida also having its own high school. Greenwood Lake students have the option of attending either Warwick Valley High School or Chester High School. Students not living in Greenwood Lake or Florida, attend one of the Town of Warwick’s three elementary schools, Warwick Valley Middle School and Warwick Valley High School.
Transportation
Warwick is located approximately 50 miles outside of New York City. There is access to main thoroughfares (Rt 17, Rt 17A, Rt 94, New York State Thruway), an NJ Transit Park and Ride, as well as bus stops for convenient commuting. New Jersey Transit buses #196 and #197 provide service from Warwick to New York City and the surrounding areas.
Several bus stops are located in the Village, and the Park and Ride on Route 17A has free parking.
